ACTIONS
We delayed the action a little bit to match the first
days of class and ensure that we provide notebooks
(100-page: 600, 200-page: 180), pens (1000),
pencils (1000), 30 boxes of chalk and 10 algebra kits.
The children were thrilled and the professors delighted
of the continued efforts. Our actions not only
enable learning and development but also entice the
children to learn in better conditions and enable the
professors to focus on their teaching. Classes are
still overcrowded with 100 students fitting in rooms of
30-40 and much remains to be done to help the people of
Burkina Faso help themselves but progress and
perseverance is key. We wish to thank again all
our donors and supporters who consistently help us in
our mission and assist the children of Burkina Faso in
their development.

For its ninth action, Paper for all distributed 800
notebooks, 500 pens, 500 pencils and 10 boxes of chalk
to the children in the two schools. Special
emphasis was given to providing them with the goods
before the academic year ended so that the children can
work and acquire knowledge during the summer, be it by
themselves or through the few summer courses sessions
that are being help by volunteers. Again a big
thank you from the children and the Paper for All teams
to the donators who allow this improvement of the
learning conditions to happen.

Action
Thanks to your
support, Paper for All could cater for the two schools of Yaaka and Ecole of de l'avenir
for a total of 1,000 students. 800 notebooks, 400
pens, 25 boxes of chalk, 200 pencils and 6 board rulers were
distributed.
Approach
- This action will allow the students to finish their
school year in good conditions and be equipped for their
final exams.
- The teachers also received chalk and board rulers to
better teach as the lack of school supplies is making their
task difficult.
Results
- The students are very happy to and want to work harder
to build their future
- The teachers are also very happy as the school supplies
facilitate their work (see thank-you letters below)
- The children's parents are also very happy to see that
their children are being helped and wish to thank the
charity and the donators.

Action
Paper for All
targeted for the first time a second school, the school of
Yaaka, based in Circonscription d'Education de Base( C E B)
Ouaga3, with 208 students from 6 to 12 years old. As
for the Ecole of de l'avenir, the children do not have pens,
pencils or notebooks, and the teachers do not have rulers
and chalk to properly give lessons.
Approach
- The focus was
on equipping the 208 students in notebooks, pens and pencils
- In addition,
the teachers can now give lessons in better learning
conditions as they now have chalks and school board rulers
Results
The equipment was key both for the students and teachers
to learn and teach in better conditions. The school of
Yaaka is a second school Paper for All is now targeting
thanks to the donations and free volunteering of Paper
for All's members.

Action
Paper for All
focused on getting reading books and chalk as well as
notebooks for the new academic year. For this sixth
action, Paper for All was helped by volunteers who kindly
contacted the organisation prior to their trip to Burkina
Faso. Their significant contribution in terms of
academic resources and efforts allowed a much greater
impact. We wish to thank them for their help.
In addition,
the government has this academic year decided to subsidize
books in Burkina Faso and has distributed some books for
free. The numbers are insufficient but it still
resulted in a significant decrease in price for books sold
by retailers, which allowed Paper for All to buy more books.
Finally, the
Papier pour Tous entity based in Burkina Faso could also
fundraise and add to the funds available to buy the academic
resources.
Approach
- The focus on
school reading books followed the indications given by the
school professors. 20 reading books were bought for
each of the age levels: CP, CE1, CE2, CM1, CM2 (age: 6 to
11). This was made possible thanks to the decrease in
the price of books, the local Papier pour Tous fundraising
and the volunteers' help.
- In addition,
150 notebooks and pens were distributed to the neediest
children. These children were the ones the school
directors, among whom Mrs. Coudialti, indicated most needed
these academic resources.
- In addition,
chalk was
bought as the professors did not have enough to teach in
good conditions.
Results
The chalks were
very much appreciated by the teachers for their lessons.
In addition, the feedback indicated that the reading books were
greatly appreciated as they were badly needed. Pupils now
not only have a couple of
notebooks but also books, which will allow them to start reading
in better conditions. We are making good progress
in equiping the children equip with academic resources
and must definitely continue to give them proper
conditions for their education and development.

Action#5: July 2007: Paper for All distributed 350
notebooks, 100 pens, 100 pencils and 12 school books
Action
Paper for All
continued diversifying the scope of academic materials
distributed to increase its impact on the pupils. 350
notebooks, 100 pens, 100 pencils and 12 school books were
distributed to cope with the needs of the pupils.
Approach
- The 701
children still
need support in getting the most basic goods such as pens
and notebooks.
- In addition,
they absolutely need school books
to be able to learn more effectively, which is why this
action was focused on this aspect too.
Results
The feedback obtained from the pupils indicated that
they were once again very happy to see that they were
receiving help for their academic efforts. Our
sustained efforts will allow the seeds to slowly grow to
become trees sheltering the next generation.

Action#4:
April 2007: Paper for All distributed 350 notebooks as well
as pens books, chalk and starter kits to the neediest
children.
Action
In
April 2007, Paper for All distributed 350 notebooks, 10
reading books, 4 calculus books, 250 pens, 10 boxes of chalk
and 10 starter kits to the neediest
of the 750 children. In addition, the African entity
of Paper for All, 'Papier pour Tous' was funded.
Finally, ideas such as sending French volunteers to teach
and reinforce Paper for All's actions are being explored.
Approach
- The 701
children having received at least 1-2 notebooks in the
academic year, we focused on other academic resources such
as reading book calculus books, rulers, pens, etc. (included
in starter kits) for the pupils and chalks for the teachers.
- In addition,
we asked the teachers and school directors to create a list
of the hardest-working and neediest children in the school.
We want to make sure they are the first ones to benefit from
Paper for All's help.
- The creation
of the African entity, 'Papier pour Tous' was also needed
to contact people within the government and gain further
credibility. In the future, this could enable Paper
for All to get support and possibly start sending French
volunteers to teach.
- Feedback from
the students has now also been collected.
Results
- The feedback from the children shows how happy and
proud they feel (letters below). They want to
learn and they are delighted to be given the means to
help their family, friends and country.
- The teachers are also very happy to see that our
actions are on-going. Sending volunteers would now
be a possible next step to further our actions.

Action#3: January 2007: Paper for all distributed 750
notebooks and 20 school books to the 701 children
Action
In
January 2007, Paper
for All distributed 750 notebooks to the 701 pupils
and 20 books to the teachers of the elementary school (8
classrooms).
Approach
Our
main aim for this third action was to make sure that all
children had at least one notebook to write their lessons.
Our secondary aim was to start addressing another need:
books. Each classroom of 90 pupils now has 2-3 books.
This should improve the learning conditions. Much
remains to be done though, so that these children, who show
such energy and are so proud to become educated, can learn
in proper condition and themselves contribute to the
education of the next generation!
Results
- The 701 children were very proud and happy to each
have their own notebook to write upon. Education
is really of prime importance to them. Ultimately,
it will allow them to improve the situation in their
country.
- The teachers are very happy as their teaching
conditions are improving as well. They now have
books for their classrooms and can have 2-3 books shared
among their pupils to make them read and help them
learn.

Action#2:
October 2006: Paper for All helped the 701 children start the new
academic year in better conditions
Action
Paper
for All led the way to repaint the
boards, give additional notebooks and provide boxes of chalk
(15 large boxes) for the teachers, so
that the children start the new academic year in better
learning conditions.
Approach
In
October 2006, we decided to focus
on the new academic year to offer better conditions to the
children. The teachers urgently needed chalks and
the school boards were in a shocking state. Paper for
All therefore arranged for the school boards to be repainted
and distributed 15 boxes of chalk to the teachers
so that the children have better learning conditions.
Results
- Starting the new academic year in good conditions is
crucial. This second action significantly improved
these conditions, as outlined by the feedback we got
from the children and teachers.
- The school boards were indeed successfully repainted
and the teachers could again write the lessons thanks to
the chalks we provided (see before and after the
action).
- The 701 children were delighted to be able to
read the lessons again on the boards, and especially for the start
of the academic year.

Action#1: June 2006: Paper for All
distributed 300 notebooks to disadvantaged children in an elementary school in
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso
Action
More than 300 notebooks (+ pens)
were distributed to about 300 children aged 10-15 !
Approach
In June 2006, a first
partnership was created with an elementary school in
Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso. The
funds collected in the UK were sent to Burkina Faso
where the local heads took care of the logistics to buy
and transport the academic resources. The
notebooks were distributed first to the children who
needed them the most, then to reward the ones who had
obtained the best academic performance and finally on a
family basis.
Results
- We are very pleased with this first action. A
child who wants to learn and
walks several hours to come to class should not have to
write in the margins of the notebooks used by his/her
brothers/sisters before.
- The
children were thrilled. Having the possibility to
write is key to pride oneself on learning and becoming
educated.
- We feel
that we can and must do more. If you feel that
this fight is yours too, we urge you to have a look at
our
How you can help section.
